Where are they now?

Where are they now?

Ever wondered whether working with me through a career training programme is worth it?

You've probably been unsure about what results you can expect. And so here's an interview style profile of some on the clients I've worked with.

#1 - What inspired you to hire Joy Randolph as your coach?

I was graduating from school and was confused about my life and career.

I knew I needed a new job but didn't know what job would best use my skills.

I also didn't know how to stand out. The jobs I was interested are really competitive and I was afraid I wouldn't get the job.

I really needed someone like Joy who's experienced and able to give me useful suggestions.

#2 - What is one surprising or unexpected result that you received through your work together?

I think the most obvious outcome is that I learned the "Results and Relevant" strategy. I've used it to tackle any job and it works! It got me an interview and job I wasn't qualified for!

I also learned my real strengths.

I had no idea I could make a living using some of the strengths I have.... but now I can and I do.

#3 - If a friend or colleague said to you, “I am thinking about hiring Joy Randolph, but I’m not totally sure yet. Should I?” what would you say to them?

I would say "Definitely have a try! Joy is not only a wonderful career coach but also an amazing life coach. She was a great mentor to me and is now a close friend. If you want to get a good job, go and talk to Joy. "

#4 - What is one specific way your life has changed as a direct result of your work together?

Joy's support made me feel more confident about life and the direction it's going. I really appreciate her encouragement and help. It's hard to list a specific example. For me, it is more like a feeling. I feel so much more confident and capable of anything now.

#5 - When you began working together, you said your biggest goal was getting a well-paid teaching job and being back in China. Do you feel you achieved that goal? Or something different / better?

Yes I got the job I wanted. I didn't think it was possible ... but I did.

Most of my friends don't agree with the path I've chosen. I was top in my class and they wanted me to do something "big" like working at a consulting firm or investment back. That's reflective of what our education system and society has taught us about what an elite should do.

But I wanted to do something meaningful. So when I got the job offer to become a teacher, the youngest teacher at a great school in Shanghai, and earn as much as consultants earn, I felt so lucky.

Even though my friends told me to reject the offer, talking with Joy helped me realised this was the job I wanted. I learned that my life is mine and I don't need to prove myself to anyone else. I grew up a lot and I'm so happy to be doing something I care about and am good at. It brings me so much happiness and peace in my life.

#1 - What inspired you to hire Joy Randolph as your coach?

When Joy and I met, I had just lost my first company and with it my income and my right to work in the country I was living in.

I needed a new job asap, but entrepreneurship was all I knew. And so I couldn’t find any roles with entrepreneur in the job title.

I felt so overwhelmed and frustrated at the same time. There were so many possible jobs I could pursue, so I pursued them all – market researcher, consultant, even data scientist – only to face the feedback again and again “You’re not qualified enough for that role.”

Then I worked with Joy, and she turned my job search on its head. I completely shifted my strategy from a casting a wide net to fishing for specific companies I loved with an authentic message. Within weeks, I had an offer from a company I loved.

#2 - What is one surprising or unexpected result that you’ve received through your work with Joy?

One unexpected benefit I got from Joy’s coaching was the ability to confidently go for jobs for which, on paper, I looked like I had no business applying for.

Twice I’ve made career changes with Joy’s coaching, making the jump to a new role and industry where it didn’t look like I had all the qualifications for the job I wanted. The best part was that I didn’t have to take a pay cut – I actually got substantial raises both times. I was a bit terrified of going for these roles at first, but Joy helped me discover the unique value which I could bring in my new roles – and how to communicate that value with confidence.

#3 - If a friend or colleague said to you, “I am thinking about hiring Joy Randolph, but I’m not totally sure yet. Should I?” what would you say to them?

I’d say "Working with Joy is a no-brainer. Based on the raise I earned alone, investing in coaching with Joy had a 50X return on investment in the first year alone – and that’s just measuring income.

Adding to that the increase in my health and happiness from doing a job I love. It's one of best life investments I’ve ever made. Talk with Joy and you’ll thank me later."

#4 - What is one specific way that your life has changed as a direct result of your work together?

I increased my income by 50% in a matter of weeks as a result of working with Joy.

I was in a job within a company that didn’t value many of my skills. Joy helped me identify a role which valued what I was already good at and coached me through the interview process to ensure I could communicate my value to the new company.

I am now out of a dead-end career track and am on a rewarding career path.

#5 - When you began working together, you said that your biggest goal was getting a well-paid job and getting more responsibility. Do you feel you achieved that goal? Or something different / better?

I feel I got a new career out of it.

Before working with Joy, in many ways I felt that my career hadn’t yet launched. I was doing a job which didn’t really have a future beyond it, but I didn’t know what else I could be doing. Out of working with Joy, I got really clear on what was important to me and on what roles I could do which would put me on the path to my dream life.

That alone was a breakthrough, but what made it real was learning the skills I had never before mastered to actually getting the job – getting noticed by recruiters, passing the interview, and even negotiating my salary. I feel I’m now playing the game of work at a totally different level.

Want to be a 2018 success story?

You’ll probably notice both of their stories and achievements are totally different. That’s because every person I work with is unique and I work with people at different stages in their career.

What they do have in common is that working with me helped them to boost their confidence and get the job they wanted (even though they weren't qualified candidates).

And all my clients work incredibly hard. Yes, they’ve made use of the training and benefited from getting my feedback on their CV, cover letter and interview preparation.

But ultimately it’s their own hard work, commitment and consistency that has helped them achieve results in their career and set themselves up for success in 2018. They truly understand what it takes to get the job they want and are willing to do the work to make it happen.
