The 6 Best Podcasts on Leadership

You know you want to become a great leader, but the problem is you don’t have time to develop your leadership skills.

When you wake up in the morning, you’re focused on all the things you’ve got to get done and you rarely have time to do courses and read books on the topic.

The truth is, it’s hard to become great leader through experience. I mentioned in my last post that being a “good” leader isn’t so much about having years of experience.

As you’ve probably discovered, there are tons of managers, some of whom you’ve worked with, that have years experience but aren’t effective leaders.

To learn how to be a good leader, you need to first learn what good leadership looks like. This means knowing what to do, how to lead and inspire people and how to behave and handle difficult conversations and situations.

And this is where podcasts come in.

Podcasts are amazing for teaching you what you need to know in a bite sized entertaining way that fits in your schedule. I listen to them when I’m walking, cleaning, cooking … basically doing physical activities that require minimal mental focus.

The next time you’re heading out or doing small stuff, instead of listening to music, put on a leadership podcast and you’ll be surprised by how much you’ll grow as a leader every week.

Here are the top 6 podcasts I’ve found on leadership.

PODCAST 1: Michael Hyatt – Lead to Win

Lead to Win is an amazing podcast.

Every week, Michael Hyatt shares bitesized leadership for lasting success. He focuses on teaching executives (and aspiring executives) how to succeed at work and win in life.

Every week he dives into topics such as how to be productive, how to communicate your vision, how to avoid being overworked (or overworking your team) and how to deal with emotional reactions that keep you stuck in your career.

PODCAST 2: Jacko Podcast

I confess. I find Jacko Willink a bit intimidating, but he shares some really helpful and meaningful advice on leadership.

He’s a decorated and retired Navy SEAL officer turned leadership author. He wrote the book Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win and shares his experiences on how to lead and win when you feel at war in your life or at the office.

It’s perfect if you’re going through challenging times at work and want to develop the resilience and intelligence to succeed even when the odds are against you.

PODCAST 3: Coaching for Leaders

Dave Stachowiak, the host of Coaching for Leaders believes leadership can be taught.

So if you’ve ever found yourself wondering, “What am I supposed to do to create a vision for my team?” or “How do I get better feedback from my stakeholders?” or “Where do I start in holding a difficult employee accountable?” or “How can I successfully manage my former peers?” Dave is your guy.

He’s built a community you can join to learn more about leadership which is amazing.
